CascadiaCon Report 2: Friday night PARTY~!

And so...

Since I was in the hotel room sleeping off my SPAWNS shift, I had Craig, Stevie, and the infamous Jack to help with the table.

Here's Jack pimping the issues:

And here's who Jack was pimping it to:

Eventually I woke up around 4:30pm, and got up to the Artist Alley around 5:30pm to try and do some of my own pimping, though by then everyone else was ready to party. So we shut down the table (everyone else was partying anyways, so what the hey XD), hauled everything back to the room and then got dressed up to party. Did I mention anything about parties yet? XD

And so here's Stevie, Craig, and my still sleepy self:

The first party we stopped at was the Artists Reception, thrown by the Convention, which included a ton of nibbles and free drinks (yay~ XD!). Here's Stevie talking to Talon (can we say 'crush'? heeheh XD):

And here's Craig chatting with Kev Brockschmidt (who's illustration became our SPAWNS shirt and poster logo):

Kev was actually taking a break in the middle of his own SPAWNS shift to stop by for a beer. I can't imagine doing that and going back to work -- but then he finished his 24-pages... so maybe there's something to that.

The Reception got really crowded and loud so we eventually left, and split up. Craig took Jack (and my camera damnit) to the BioHazard party XD, while Stevie and I decided to make some quick red paper masks and head up to the Gothic Lolita Ball... heheh.

The Ball was a complete bust due to really poor music choices. But that didn't stop Stevie and I from dancing like idiots in front of an audience of 5. The music finally got good (even some RCR and Rammstein *gasp*) right before they shut it down. Poot.

Then Stevie and I headed back to the hotel room to make arrangements for her ride home. We discovered the I.S.S. all ages party right across the hall from us with a whole room set up as a dance floor, with some really awesome music (good 80's & 90's stuff that can actually be danced to). Perfect for Stevie to burn off some energy before her ride arrived, and for me to hang out outside and have interesting conversations with people I don't know and will probably never see again XD. Time flies by until Stevie realizes she's missed 6 phone calls from her waiting ride (her increasingly P.O.ed mother and grandmother -- eep!). I rushed Stevie out to her family, apologized profusely (blaming myself), and sent them on their way. Woo~

I hooked back up with Craig and Jack (who were both completely wasted XD). Jack decided to hang out at the room and watch a cheesy amazon sci-fi movie, while Craig dragged me over to my first BioHazard party. Oh to be a real party virgin... I ended up sipping on a kegger glass of ice and rum while sitting outside and being flirted with by the biggest scariest woman in existence and feeling pity for her pet bishi-boi on a leash. Finally I discovered a pair of brains, a guy wearing a Noxious Emotions shirt and his wacky scientist friend. We talked music, mad science, and bitched about NASA. Very refreshing.

Round about 1:30am, I admited defeat, dumped my unfinished rum and headed off to bed since I had a panel the next morning and wanted to work my table all day.

CascadiaCon Report 1: SPAWNS of Insomnia II

What the heck SPAWNS of Insomina II was.

In short, a specially designed way of making comic artists even more crazy, and in 24 hours no less!

I was scheduled on Thursday Sept 1st, first day of the convention, which I thought would be the bext way to do this, but really there is no best way.

~

The "Hi mom! I'm at SPAWNS and I like it here!" T- shirt pose...

...or maybe it's the "trying to thumb a ride outta here" pose XD

~

Le Wërk Space

"Why is my tongue out...? Can't you see I'm trying to focus here? XP"

Things to note: Bottle of Motrin next to lamp, laptop loaded with iTunes music (mostly Duran Duran until I started to get sleepy then back to the Industrial screamy stuff to keep my sharp), and hiding under where I'm drawing a light board that was completely useless in the blazing vampire melting sunlight.

~

Some of the others who shared my SPAWNS shift (Morgan, Tim, and Scott), and still alive as this was actually taken the next morning.

Things to note: Morgan's Mountain Dew bottle 'o death amongst empty Monster cans (I just had a few Pepsi's myself, but hey she's young she could take it XP), my husband Craig in the background with blue shirt who'd gotten only 3 hours more sleep then I did (which was none since about 6:30am the morning before).

Funny overnight tale: Around 4am or so, while outside on break, I saw a jack rabbit hopping around in the parking lot. I don't think anyone believed me (Scott asked me if he was 6 feet tall XD), until about an hour later he was spotted by everyone else in the lower parking lot viewable from our fabulous view windows.

Other SPAWNS participants:

Larry Lewis and John Aquino (who finished early... damnit). Also Bill Morse waiting in the background armchair for his shift to start, and Stevie in the forground sitting at my Artist Alley table. Stevie (of RIF fame) was a huge help and fun to hang out with during the convention ^_^

Picture of Morgan Sandys as she goes over her 'notes' from the night before.

Some of the 'notes' Morgan drew of me.

~

Afterwards I experienced a moment of confusion as to where I was supposed to return to after a nap.

~

But then we figured out the white one was perfect --

-- for getting the fellow SPAWNS crew mates to sign it in the advent of fame and fortune (Tim Pritchard is a genius!!).

~~~
So yeah, as for my success at this... well I was going for story (hopefully my strongpoint) I didn't worry about length, I just kinda hoped it would end somewhere around 24 pages, and it did, only it was 18 pages that I completed. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome and proud that I took the challenge. I gotta say though I don't think there'll be a next time... not even if I get paid XD!
Still though it was a blast, and a real bonding experience with my fellow CNW members. So, even though I got stupid towards the end of it (last page took 3 hours to complete with a very forced concentration), and even a little crabby with the energetic Morgan while Craig and Stevie were trying to set up my Artist Alley table and I was trying to get off to bath and bed -- it was all still worth it, and even more so since I was able to raise $150 for Friends of The Seattle Public Library for graphic novel purchases.
Way to go! ^_^
Well, that sücked...
So much for keeping up the blog while at CascadiaCon...
Turns out there's no free internet from the SeaTac Hilton, and since I was already spending too much I wasn't about to tack on $1.95 per hour for DSL from the hotel room only (where I spent little enough time as it was).
Eh well anyways, later I'll just.... pretend I'm still at the con, yeah, and post photos and tales... >_>
*obviously insane*
XD
